DIY Halloween Paper Plate Decorations

Looking for some easy last-minute Halloween decorations?

These pumpkin faces and spooky spiders are fun and simple to make.

You can easily transform a plain white paper plate with some paint and markers.

DIY Decoration #1: Pumpkin Face

All you need is:

  •  a paper plate
  •  orange paint and brush or orange marker
  •  black paint and brush or black marker

Cover the outside of the plate with orange paint. If you don't have orange you can mix red and yellow together. I used acrylic paint with a dash of water to get quite a thick paint to brush over the plate easily, without it being too watery.

If both sides of your decoration will be on view you can paint the back as well.

If you don't have any paint to hand, you can use an orange marker instead.

I watched Chloe's Halloween Animals Quiz while I let the orange paint dry, then I used a thick black marker to draw on 2 triangular eyes, a nose and a smiling mouth with missing teeth.

If you don't have a black marker you can use black paint, with a small paintbrush for accuracy.

And that's all there is to it! A fun, easy craft for Halloween.

DIY Decoration #2: Spooky Spider

All you need is:

  •  a paper plate
  •  black paint or marker
  •  white chalk, paint or pencil crayon
  •  scissors
  •  glue stick or white glue

Cover the outside of the plate completely with black paint, or use a black marker.

Next, cut out the middle of the plate for the spider body, and cut the outside of the plate into 8 curved strips, as shown, for the spider legs.

Position the spider legs on the back of the body and glue into place with a glue stick or white glue.

Finally, use the chalk, white paint, or pencil crayon to draw 2 large eyes and 2 small fangs at the bottom edge of the spider body.

You now have a simple, but effective, spooky spider decoration!

If you want to hang up your decorations you can make a hole at the top, using a hole punch or scissors, then tie on a string.

Happy Halloween!
